Taormina

Under the shadow of Mt. Etna (the largest active volcano in Europe), we will set anchor in the town of Giardini Naxos. The first Greek settlement in Sicily, this small but bustling town is a great spot for local specialties such as cannoli, arancini, and of course, the local wine. Naxos also has some of the best sandy beaches in Sicily.

Taormina is frequently and aptly described as the Sicilian Monte Carlo. With its endlessly winding medieval streets and stone steps leading to wide piazzas, this is a great place to explore, shop, or perhaps grab a Sicilian-brewed craft beer. Taormina is also home to the Teatro Greco, a beautiful third century Greek theater that boasts one of the most iconic views in all of Sicily.

While ambling down Taormina's famous central street Corso Umberto, you may notice some steps leading to the Giardini della Villa Comunale. These tranquil gardens were built by Lady Florence Trevelyan, who was invited to leave Britain following a well-publicized romance with the future King Edward VII. Fanciful architecture and serene views make for a perfect afternoon stroll.
