Amalfi

Almalfi Coast View from Ravello

Next we will arrive at the Amalfi Coast, an UNESCO World Heritage site, where we can explore Positano, Ravello, and of course the charming town of Amalfi. Overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, the area is dotted with pristine beaches, villages, and terraces cultivated with citruses, vineyards, and olive groves. Amalfi is famous for its limoncello, a sweet and perhaps overly-delicious liqueur.

While anchored here it will be possible to tour Positano by boat. The coastline here is one of the most beautiful in the world, making the boat ride alone a worthwhile venture. Featured in the film Under the Tuscan Sun, the lovely town of Positano was a holiday resort in Roman times and today is full of charming local shops and sandy beaches.

A short ride from the harbor up into the hills will take you to Ravello, home to Villa Rufolo, where Richard Wagner visited in 1880. He was so taken by the gardens there that he used it as inspiration for the setting for the second act of his opera, Parsifal. Originally built by the powerful Rufolo family in the 13th century, the Villa Rufolo is filled with architectural treasures, lovely gardens, and breathtaking views.
